Happy International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate  the advancements made by women and to spread awareness of the challenges women face daily – in politics, education, employment, and other areas facets of daily life. Though it started as a socialist-organized protest for working rights led by female garment workers in 1857, the first official National Women’s Day in the U.S. wasn’t celebrated until Feb. 28, 1909. This year’s International Women’s Day has two themes: the UN’s theme is A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women, while International Women’s Day 2013 has declared its theme as The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum. Let’s go with both.

Much love and bread and roses to all women everywhere.

xx GD
